On Sunday 28th March 10 Shinto members took part in the BJCMAC championship held in Epping. All judo associations were invited and by the amount of people there we knew we were in for a long day.
It started off with young Denvir Ibrahim winning gold with an unstoppable performance. This was followed Rhiannon Shand who fought extremely well to win her very first gold medal in only her 3rd championship. Iysegul Mehmet was very unlucky not to win gold with a questionable decision about the mat area during a hold down going against her. Jordon Forbes Amos was all smiles throughout his gold medal performance, but sadly older brother Grifton had to pull out due to illness. Georgia Greenidge fought very well to win a deserved gold in her catagory. Older brother Wesley put on a superb display in his first few fights against some much older experience judoka but thinking he had finished, he was surprised to have 2 more fights that he wasn’t quite ready for. He picked up an injury and was disappointed to win a bronze but he took some fine scalps only the way. Samuel James has been absent from Championships for a while and didn’t quite have enough to win gold but happy enough with the silver. It was a familiar story for Alethea Calvert Jordon who is terrorising everyone in her path at the moment, and stormed her way to another gold. All junior competitors went up 1 tag as part of this years 1st club grading.

Hannah James and Mark Amos were our 2 senior competitors on the day. Hannah was out first, lacking regular competition she still managed to perform her favourite drop seoi-nage well enough and against some top opposition to win a bronze. Mark showed some very good judo techniques to help him win a gold medal and due to his increasing good run of gold medal performances his was awarded his orange belt. Shinto’s final tally was 6 golds, 2 silver and 2 bronzes. A great result for the club and well done to all.
