Alethea Calvert Jordon was the only Shinto representative at this event. We only found out about it at short notice so other members were unable to attend. It is a very well run event held at Berkhamsted, where the catagories are age as well as weight divided. Alethea was in the 15-17 year old girls u50 kilo group. There were only two other girls in the group so she was gaurenteed a medal but which one would it be? Her first fight was very evenly matched with both girls giving their all. They battled the distance with Alethea eventually winning with two counter techniques. Exhausted, battered and bruised, she then came out to fight the familiar figure of Meghan from St Albans. Again both girls fought their hearts out, receiving injuries as they progressed. Then whilst Alethea attempted a turnover, Meghan gave out a painful scream and was unable to move. The fight had to be stopped and Alethea was awarded the gold. It is a sad way to win and our thoughts go out to Meghan and wish her a speady recovery.
