On the weekend both Gavin and I passed the FPJ one coaching course, which gave an insight into what the futire of BJC Judo is to look like, its interesting to say the least, the stance that has been taken is that of Ippon Judo,
with techniques desigend to produce clean Judo, with one of the main principles of Judo in mind, maximum efficiency with minimum effort,
The techniques that are to be taught to beginners will start with these eight techniques,
Morote seionage,
Seio Toshi
Ko Uchi Gari
Tsuri Komi Goshi
Tai Otoshi
O Uchi Gari
Tsuri Kmi Ashi
De ashi Barai
All these throws have a sleeve and lapel grip, all of them will be taught demonstrating Kusushi, Tsukuri, Kake and nage,
Then the techniques as combinations such as morote seionage into seio toshi, or into ko uchi gari, or Tsuri komi goshi into tai otoshi, or into o uchi gari etc.
When pacticing, Uke should be in Jogotai stance, and Tori in shizentai.
the term T up was used a lot, inferring that Tori's feet will be in a T position as he starts with Kusushi
A simple Groundwork routine was also demonstrated, running through holddowns and escapes, and a second one which was a circle of holdowns rotating around uke,
The normal saftey and child protection procedures were also discussed alongside many other intersting articles.
The warm up was interesting as it was broken down into five categories, of three minute slots, the first being a joint stretch, from the head to the toes, then the cardio vascular workout, running side stepping etc, then a stretch of now warm muscles, then strength excerecises, press ups etc, then a specific stretch of the body parts which are going to be used in the next sevtion of the lesson, so if you are about to do Ukemi, you should stretch your neck muscles and your hips and back etc, as ukemi utiles all of those parts.
Once the warm up is done then ukemi, then onto the lesson, each tecniques should be demonstrated in fuill them part, part, full, breaking it down into parts so rather than just doing the whole technique in one, get the student to practice part of it at a time, common sense really, encouraging motor skills etc.
All in all it was a good course which was run by Hosaka Sensei.
