Re:What is Judo? 3 Years, 9 Months ago
I recently watched old footege of Anton Geesink ( I think I spelled his name correctly ) winning his olympic gold medal against the Japanese fighter. What impressed me wasn't the fact that he won but the way he carried himself after the bout. There was no jumping about punching the air no running to hug his coach in fact he angrily waved his coach away from the mat. Instead he simply returned to his spot on the tatami and tidied himself up to await the referees announcement. He then went to his defeated opponent and together they bowed to the audience. That kind of dignity and respect is all but gone from competition Judo. I know how good it feels to win and how it feels to lose and I like to think that I acted properly in each circumstance , that is what Judo is all about.
